Sheffield care home resident celebrates 102nd birthday
Jean Myers, a resident at Northfield nursing home in Sheffield, has celebrated reaching 102 today with a birthday ‘pod party’ at the home's visitor pod.
Jean was visited on the day by her daughter and staff at the home decorated the home’s garden pod for the occasion.
Jean’s daughter Janice Thompson said:
It was lovely to be able to spend face to face time with mum on her birthday. It was tinged with some sadness because we had a big party for her 100th birthday but, nevertheless, she had a good day. We had a little party for her with staff and I was able to call my son in Bristol on video call and we both sang Happy Birthday to her. The staff at the home have been wonderful and they made a fuss of her all day, painting her nails, styling her hair, decorating the pod with balloons and baking her a birthday cake. The last year has been really tough for everyone but I’ve been delighted with the way the care home staff have stayed in regular communication with me and done all they can to keep up the spirits of mum and all the other residents.
Helen Gresham, Manager at Northfield nursing home, said:
The visitor pods at both our homes have been hugely successful and it was great to use the pod at Northfield to have a little party for Jean’s birthday. Reaching 102 is definitely something to celebrate and we were all thrilled to share Jean’s special day with her.
Jean has been a resident at Northfield since 2019. She was born in Liverpool and moved to Sheffield in her 90s to be nearer to her family.
